Possible Solution

The purple portal drastically changed it's appearance. It no longer resembled a double helix model. It now looked more like a thick, purple cloud that was looming ever closer by the moment. "You think we're safe in here?" Olivia asks while staring at the purple threat. "Safer than out there at least." Norm responds. "Okay. Let me recap. There's  no possible way of building a society, and we can't leave." I say, sitting behind the desk. "That's pretty much the gist of it." Norm replies. "Wait, there may be something." Olivia says, excitedly. "What is it?" I ask. "There was a book when I got here. It should still be here." "What kind of book was it?" Todd asks. "It looked like an ordinary diary. But there could be something useful in it. Like a spell or something." "Ya think it'd still be there?" Norm wonders. "Maybe. I don't know how good shape it's in though. Some of the ink ran off of it." Norm shrugs." Might as well try it. Not like everyone else is throwing out suggestions."
