Free Rounds!

One free round followed by another free round. Admittedly , drinking on the job was not one of my brighter ideas, and if we were employed by anyone other than the Wellness Center, we more than likely would have been fired. But we're not, and it's very easy to mistake generosity for friendship. It started off fine. Whenever Jimmy wasn't looking we'd slip notes to each other on bar napkins. We asked each other if we could trust Jimmy. Would it look suspicious if we were to leave? We believed it would be better to stay. That way we'd stick to his good side, and we might be able to wrestle some information out of him. He didn't talk much. At least not about anything important. He'd ask what we thought about "Escape From L. A." Then he would walk off. He did that for a while, asking us about a random sports team or some obscure movie. It was like he was trying to make small talk, but you could tell it was uncomfortable for him. That or we never gave him the response he was searching for. Eventually, after asking us what we thought of "Mad Max" he left completely. I thought maybe I had offended him when I said "which one?" We listened intently, waiting for his footsteps. We spent a half hour waiting. Perhaps it was the alcohol, but we became overconfident at that point. We were loud and boisterous. We shouted our plans loudly and boldly. We didn't care. These people didn't have a clue where Russell was. But we did, sure as hell we did. We were so overjoyed in our celebration that we did not hear the footsteps approaching us followed by the clocking of a gun. "Don't you move." A cold, familiar voice insisted.
